Alvarez DY62C Cutaway Acoustic Electric Guitar Review
My favorite dreadnought cutaway guitar of all times waited for me as I went downtown to do a Alvarez DY62C Cutaway Acoustic Electric Guitar Review and I could not wait to get my hands on this instrument.
I must admit that Alvarez always stood out for me as instruments in a class of their own as far as sound and design is concerned. You simply cannot ignore this beauty as it is lifted from its hard casing.
The top made from solid cedar wood sits beautifully on the burled mahogany back. Abalone laid in around the sound hole rosette speaks of top-notch quality crafters at work. As not to spoil the amazing top, the manufacturers decided to place a clear pick guard - clever decision indeed.
A dark and almost moody looking mahogany neck extends into the lighter case wood giving a stark contrast at first sight. Only then you realize that the fingerboard is actually made of ebony wood. The frets are comfortable and looks great against this almost black background.
At the top a burled mahogany head sits showing of pearl stripes and golden die cast tuning machines. Masterful is the summation that comes to mind as this beautiful instrument with its multi tortoise binding slips with ease into playing position.
If this guitar sounded anything near to what it looks like I would be in heaven and soon I went there without hesitation. The crisp clear sounds that resonated after just a single strum filled my ears with pure joy. I may be criticized for saying this, but very few woods can deliver the sound cedar can.
Scales proofed a walk in the park as I worked my way down into the comfortable and perfectly shaped cut out area. Plucking at some open snares send thrills down my spine. I always protested that all quality guitars should have a rosewood bridge and the Dc bridge on the Alvarez performed perfectly.
Sound reproduction through the 600T Mk II electronic pickup system cannot be faulted. Adjusting the side panel controls felt natural and without any strain. The Alvarez produced acoustic sounds that would thrill any guitar lover as I played with my favorite picker. Not all electric acoustic guitars can handle hard picking, but this model surprised me endlessly delivering one crystal clear note after the other.
The sizing and scale of this guitar at 25 3/8 inches and with a neck of 1-11/16 inches makes it perfect for almost any hand size and arm length players. One could not help but feel on top of the world holding and playing this magnificently crafted instrument.
