Fender FR50CE Acoustic Electric Guitar Review
The task to do a Fender FR50CE Acoustic Electric Guitar review felt very much like something I had to perform in my line of duty. But from the very moment my eyes got caught up in that first glimpse of the guitar standing proud in its stand, the attraction felt almost natural. I could not tear myself from the masterfully designed flowing lines; I knew I had to pick up this instrument.
I pressed my nose right up to the casing and inhaled the promises of pleasure coming from the mahogany wood. A light tap seemed appropriate, so I did. Through my hands and ears I felt a zing of excitement as the resonance faded quickly. I had to strike a chord. You would too were you holding such a beauty.
Holding the guitar, I had sort of gotten over the bedazzled first stages of this possible love affair, but I staggered again as I felt how comfortable the design lines worked in my hands. My fingers slid down the round mahogany neck, stopping only to investigate the Sonokelin fret board here and there. I expectantly struck my favorite chord.
What the Fishman Power chip and resonator pickup send to the amplifier and through the speakers back to me was pure Fender sound. So obviously more chords followed which lead to me really feeling and experiencing this fine instrument. I must admit, there is something about slinging a fender onto your hip - maybe it's a guy thing, but the true connection to the music inside me felt comfortable and real with this instrument.
The added cutaway gave easy-access as the 24-3/4" scale length suited my body perfectly. The guitar kept on giving as I pushed some limits, but when I truly understood the design of this classic, was during some awesome high-register slide sounds. The access works great and backed up by the Split micarta saddle that carried the sound almost dreamlike; I certainly can predict a whole new style of playing should emerge soon from playing this kind of guitar.
Stage lights will have a ball with the spruce top, but the sounds it makes under some drumming will take me a while to decipher. Control buttons sit where you would want them to sit should you be able to build this guitar yourself.
As I put it down again, I almost immediately wanted to pick up the Fender and make it my own there and then. I've played a lot of guitars in my lifetime and I may be biased towards certain makes, but this instrument electrified me like no other had in a long time. In fact we did leave together.
