Martin DC Aura Acoustic Electric Guitar Review
Every musician that makes a living by playing various guitars - like me- ends up doing studio and recording sessions. During such a session I mentioned that I had to do a Martin DC Aura Acoustic Electric Guitar Review. This was met with murmurs of approval all round from all that knew this guitar that proofed a favorite with studio music players.
The most interesting comment came from the sound mixer behind his glass curtain. He was always delighted to mix the full and clear tones of the Martin as single compliment or onto several tracks without ever clashing with any other instrument it may be asked to combine with. He just loved the consistent sound and reliable tone a lot. So do I.
The best aspect of the Martin is that you can take that sumptuous sound in the studio and produce the very same quality on a live stage to the delight of audiences worldwide. Many singers know this and use the Martin in their backing setup to produce quality sounds very much in line with what they recorded in studio, bringing the record or nowadays disk sound so much closer the sound produced on stage. Even in multiple instrument setups, the Martin keeps his full and clear voice.
The DC Aura model has a unique D-14 cutaway body style giving easy fret and string access allowing for quick and clear transitions - even really up close to the Mortise tendon neck joint - making this instrument a pleasure to play. The neck has an oval neck shape modified to a low profile from solid mahogany wood - solid and sturdy in the hand. The 1-11/16'' nut width just takes this neck design to the ultra limits of pleasurable playing.
The twenty frets sitting on a solid black ebony board plays easily but with maximum finger control possible. I tried various bridge positions and the martin changed character suitably and without any sound bleeding from bad holds.
The hexagonal pearl inlays at various areas on the fret board make finding your way pretty easy. Tuning the guitar to perfection is made a quick job by the golden tuners with their impressive ebony knobs.
I particularly enjoyed the 25-2/5" scale as I am large in build and love a guitar to fit into my body without straining my back. The Martin fits like it belongs to my body where its polished gloss effect enjoys the play of stage lights tremendously. The model I played had Light Phosphor Bronze Martin MSP 4100 strings on and I can strongly recommend you stick to these as they perform the way you expect and want to enjoy. I used my Martin DC Aura Acoustic guitar with many different electronic pickup systems and found the original Martin Gold Plus© Natural pickup the perfect fit to this perfect instrument.
