Martin OMC Aura Acoustic Electric Guitar
The Martin OMC Aura acoustic electric guitar is a pleasant surprise in an acoustic electric guitar from the Martin company. This particular model is what's classified in the lineup offered by Martin has a special orchestra offering. It comes with a nice electronics package that enables the guitar to produce an outstanding acoustic-electric array of tones no matter the venue in which it's being played.
The company has thoughtfully included its proprietary Fischman Aura Acoustic Imaging Blender to allow the guitar's tone to be captured by in-studio condenser microphones. This guitar, to be honest, is as high-tech as the company can make it and will be able to reproduce a number of different sound images that can mix with the guitar's outstanding supplied pickup.
The Martin itself has a body that utilizes a solid Sitka spruce top with Indian rosewood sides and backing and a mahogany neck that has a specially modified oval shape for ease of playing. Additionally, it features a single cutaway on the lower bout and a unique bracing system. That mahogany neck leads all the way up to a series of machine heads that are goldplated with large ebony knobs. The machine heads are Gotoh-brand, too.
There is a 25 1/2 inch scale and 20 frets, all of which are accessible due to the single cutaway. The Martin electronics package also features a digital equalizer, and onboard chromatic tuner and a nice feedback control. Special Martin touches that people have come to expect from the company include a nice Martin mother-of-pearl logo, an ebony bridge and a set of and pins with abalone dots.
The guitar's action -- meaning the height of the strings above the fretboard and frets -- is typical Martin, meaning that it is almost without compare. The guitar right easily on the shoulder and in the hands and a skilled player -- or even just an amateur player -- will feel as if he's behind the wheel of a Formula One racing machine, so smooth is the guitar to play.
Martin guitars are justifiably famous for the quality of their construction and ease of playability and this model is no exception. It's more of a studio model, to be honest, than one that is normally seen out on the road or up on stage, but that's for a good reason. Martin has taken what it knows about studio work and the way guitars are picked up in such a studio and built this dream machine.
All in all, one will quickly come to realize that this particular acoustic electric isn't going to be cheap, and they quite often list for nearly $4000. A number of online realtors have been offering them for just a little under $3000, so take a few moments to look around before landing on anyone particular store. Martin guitars are some of the best in the world, and most players would eagerly grab one if they could.
