Ovation Adamas Collectors Edition Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

When the call came to do an Ovation Adamas Collectors Edition Acoustic Electric Guitar Review, I could hardly contain my excitement, as I always wanted to get to know this guitar made from carbon fibers a bit better.

To fully understand and appreciate the technology behind this guitar, I did some research. What I learned was that the word Adamas is Latin and describes a diamond in its raw form namely carbon. This connects the brand name Adamas directly to the use of long carbon fibers in the making of fine musical instruments.

Carbon was developed to assist the space industry as it features amazing strength and weights very little. I caught my mind racing as to how these characteristics would fit a guitar. The only way to find out was to go and play a Collectors edition of the Adamas - a great prospect on its own as only 150 of them will be built in 2009. Note to collectors - get your orders in soon as we are almost done with the year.

Picking up the guitar for the first time the weight or rather the lack thereof strikes you immediately. How can a lightweight instrument produce quality sound I wondered and brought the instrument to my body? Expecting the response of a spruce top, the reaction time of the Ovation surprised me tremendously.

The sheer volume produced by the carbon sound box was exhilarating to say least. Another great aspect was the longer vibration I felt in the instrument making the sweet sounds carry a long way. I was intrigued.

Playing some basic chords gave me that all familiar grin that we guitar players get when we are happy. The warm tone had full body qualities I have not heard in a long time. Combine this romantic sound with the elaborate abalone inlays - I guess more than two hundred of them - and you have the perfect instrument to steal hearts with.

Finger play revealed a superior note quality as the Ovation OP Pro Studio preamp picked up the sounds perfectly. I enquired about the exclusive expressor drive controls and learned how to accentuate individual notes. I was hooked on this idea and soon understood the possibilities this feature holds. Brilliant comes to mind.

I hesitantly put this beauty down only to pick it up again to marvel at the Celtic knot design in finely crafted abalone that goes round the sound hole. If you are looking for a perfect blend of acoustic and electric sounds, the Ovation Adamas Collectors Edition will have you smiling in no time. Pity they are so scarce.
