The Taylor Grand Symphony Acoustic Electric Guitar
The Taylor Grand Symphony acoustic electric guitar is yet another fine guitar in a long line of the instruments made by one of the most loved guitar makers in the country. The 12 string Grand Symphony has been a significant part of Taylor history and delivers to the player of the guitar the Taylor tone and lush, clear intonation that the company is justifiably famous for.
Constructed of fine quality maple woods, the guitar is at once a full on acoustic model suitable for players of all abilities -- though the best players will certainly appreciate the guitar the most -- and also fully capable of being plugged in and amplified for concert level musical engagements. The action (meaning the height of the strings above the guitar's fretboard) is outstanding.
This 12 string guitar is famous for its playability due to that action, among other features and characteristics of the instrument. Taylor has taken care to ensure that the craftsmanship melded into the guitar is top-notch at every level of production. The selection of maple woods on the back and sides of the guitar is taken from Big Leaf maple that's been chosen by the companies buyers for its eventual playability.
As far as intonation goes, the company has arranged to have a steady supply of Sitka spruce on the guitar's top and a fine sound hole rosette that's highlighted by three rings of abalone. The strings run along an excellent ebony Hard Rock maple neck that features 4 mm abalone inlaid dots and nothing but fine accessory components like an ebony bridge and a nut and saddle made of high quality Tusq.
At the top of the neck sits a first-class series of machine heads (sometimes called tuning machines) that are goldplated and really shine when the stage lights strike them. The neck comes in at 1 7/8 of an inch at the nut -- which is the piece where the strings individually run up to the machine heads -- and overall length of the neck comes in at 25 1/2 inches, making it very easy to move from chord to chord or note to note.
The guitar itself comes in a high gloss finish and a GS Series Deluxe Hardshell case which is able to withstand the rigors of even the most hard-core group of musicians out on the road touring for months at a time. Like most acoustic guitars of this class, there is no cutaway either at the top or the bottom of the body where the fretboard begins its run up to the neck.
All in all, the Taylor Grand Symphony Acoustic Electric Guitar is a pro-quality guitar in every sense of the word and its price reflects that reality. It usually lists for around $3200, and decent discounts can be found if one is willing to look for them.
